Renaissance Nativity and Christmas crib in Urbino
Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 December
Now at its 7th edition, The winter Duke’s festival will on the second weekend in December, in the city of Urbino. All the streets and squares within Urbino’s walls are turned into the setting for the Living Renaissance Nativity scene (truly UNIQUE IN ITALY!). Walking through the historic centre you can admire the faithful reconstruction of the painting “Adoration of the Shepherds” by Renaissance painter Perugino, and then visit the Palazzo Ducale, with its very interesting basement.
And there’s much more than that! Faithfully reproduced ancient crafts from the XV century are on display, and you will have the opportunity to see the local blacksmiths and carpenters at work. The Main Square will be also rebuilt in pure Renaissance style! Musicians, shooters and archers, parades and shows and very many stalls will animate the event. Children can have fun in a large area dedicated to them, with Renaissance games and board games. And of course food is the true protagonist: “Il piatto del Duca”, which means “The Duke’s dish” is made of polenta, maize cream, dressed with wild boar sauce and cooked according to the Renaissance recipe. Just one example of the delicious typical dishes you will find at this event.
